ALCO
Road Switchers

Define "road switcher"; minimum of 900 h.p., along hood for the engine, a short hood for steam-generating equipment, the ability to handle freight or passenger assignments. Define it as you will, many give credit to Alco for the "first" road switcher, the RS-1. The first delivery, in 1941, was to the Rock Island (#748, #749). The RS-1 was, in effect, a standard 1,000 switcher on an extended bed, with improved-riding drop side equalizer, swing bolster trucks. The RS-1 was a natural for branch line operations! The RS-1 was the first of the early generation of Alco road switchers

The Division Point and Ajin is introducing an on-going project of Alco road switchers, beginniong with the RS-2. You are well advised to contact your dealer to reserve yours!
