Thanks to World War Two, in 1944 (and 1945) the Rock Island took delivery of the last of it's mighty Northerns. Built by the American Locomotive Company, these steam freight haulers were were modern, pwerful and fast. Equipped with steam heat connections, the "5100 series" were known to tote passengers and express perishables as well.
The first ten (5100-5109) of this series were oil -burners. In 1945, ten more of this class were ordered from Alco, this time as coal-burners. No one could guess that all twenty would be retired by 1952. The Division Point and Boo-Rim Precision will produce a limited quantity of these "5100"s to keep your Division Point M-50As, R-67As and R-67Bs company! Contact your dealer NOW!
