Introduced in August 1949, the E-8 brought another change in the E-unit "look". While the upgraded 576-B engine and improved main generators and traction motors (now 2,500 h.p.) were not obvious, the external changes were. Goodbye to the "chicken-wire" grills and hello stainless steel (later Farrs), portholes replacing square windows, fan housings replacing fan grill on the roof! The E8s sold almost as well as the E7s, with 418 As and 39 Bs hitting the rails for 39 roads.
All models will be DCC-ready, with speaker platforms installed. As usual, Division Point will catalog a wide selection of these locomotives, and YOUR reservations will decide the production schedule. So, get those reservations in soonest!
