There are some real benefits to being an importer . . . and one of them is getting your favorite engines done the way they should be . . . as close to prototype as possible!!! I have to admit to this being a very favorite project for me. While I have always admired the L&N's "Big Emma's", the "Nickel Plate Berk" is probably my all time favorite engine (actually tied with B&O's fabulous EM-1). These engines were the zenith of complex external combustion machinery at it's absolute best. Keeping 60 mile an hour freight schedules with these engines was expected by the Nickel Plate, and they couldn't have developed a better design for doing just that!!. The Division Point will bring you both of these famous "Berk"s this fall with all the prototype fidelity you expect . . . and they deserve! The "Big Emma"s will be done modeled after both the Lima, and Alco prototypes, complete with both types of disc drivers each company favored. We have a full set of blueprints and wonderful photos of these engines that will allow us to produce the finest model of this prototype ever produced. As for the "Nickel Plate Berk", not only do we have exacting blueprints, but a wealth of detail shots and the help of our friends at the very well managed "Nickel Plate Historical & Technical Society".
Friends, this will be a fabulous piece!! The Division Point will model the S-1, S-2/3, and finally the W&LE/Nickel Plate S-4 classes of this great engine. Both Berkshire projects will be modeled as they were later in their respective careers, Circa 40's and 50's, and quantities of both of these projects will be extremely low. The Division Point Collectors Edition??? It would have to be Lima's NKP #779, the last engine out shopped by that venerable works for a US Railroad . . . But wait, there's more . . . !!!! (sounds like a Vegamatic commercial doesn't it?) Turns out that the second to last loco out shopped by Lima was . . . you guessed it . . . L&N "Big Emma" #1991! So be it, both will be the collector's editions with a collectors box. A laser-cut walnut presentation box will be availablee as an option. Give your friendly Division Point dealer a call to reserve these fine engines. Delivery is now scheduled for May-June 2003.
