Fairbanks-Morse (and CLC)
C-Liners
(Consolidation Line)

In 1948 and 1949 a small group Fairbanks-Morse engineers in a leased office in Chicago churned out the design for a new cab unit diesel. The concept involved a standarized carbody with options galore based on standard units, hence the “Consolidation Line” name. Choices included fuel tank size, truck arrangement, steam generator, and engine options. “Consolidation Line” quickly became “C-Liners”

The Division Point will offer a wide range of the C-liners, including the Canadian-built models! We are be listing most of the roads’ variants for your consideration, and we await your feedback! Target delivery is 2006 through 2007.

As usual, we are indebted to those folks who publish the information and photos we need. We urge you to buy their books and photos. This time we are especially indebted to Dave Sweetland’s book mentioned below. His work has made our work much easier!
  • C-Liners: Fairbanks-Morse’s Consolidation Line of Locomotives by David R. Sweetland (Withers Publishing)
  • Also, thanks to the historical societies and collectors who preserve the drawings and photos!

May 18, 2010: All models will come DCC- and sound-ready as all our models are; EMD re-engined NYC C-Liners added.
December 28, 2011: Pages noted are from C-Liners: Fairbanks-Morse’s Consolidation Line of Locomotives by David Sweetland, Withers Publishing.

February 10, 2012: Additional data added for ALL models; DP-6927B deleted, as we have no evidence that boosters were painted gray/white; some models are deleted. These models will have the correct number of fan openings and fans as well as correct pilot openings.
